Course Description:  In the ever-expanding universe of online content, it's crucial for ALL HUMANS, especially educators, to equip themselves with powerful tools to guide students through the cosmos of information. Join us for a unique exploration into the realms of vital media literacy including lateral reading and the SIFT method - a strategic approach to online information evaluation that involves exploring multiple sources to gain a broader perspective. We will delve into the cosmic landscape of misinformation, equipping teachers with the ability to guide students in critically assessing the credibility and reliability of digital content.

What Tech Tools Will Be Utilized: Canva, Google Slides, Google Search, Various online platforms

Instructional Strategy:  Interactive activities that require participants to actively apply lateral reading and the SIFT method, including real-time fact-checking exercises, collaborative  discussions, and group analysis of websites.

What You’ll Experience: 
  • The importance of media literacy for your own sake and the sake of your students.
  • Proficiency in lateral reading strategies for comprehensive information evaluation.
  • Mastery of the SIFT method and its application to various contexts.
  • Recognition of the symbiotic relationship between lateral reading and SIFT in fostering critical thinking.
  • Practical strategies for incorporating these concepts into lesson plans.
